August is All About Girls in the Media

Hands Up

This August, let’s think about girls in the media. What kinds of roles do you want to see girls play in TV shows, movies, books and in the newspapers? Jot a few ideas right here, in the comments section. Then we’ll share this wish list with our friends at theĀ Day of the Girl Summit.

Let’s speak up! Let’s be heard! Let’s ask for the kinds of things that can make our world a better place for all girls!

  1. I want to see bolder girls on tv shows. I want to see them being there selfs and having fun!!!!!! I think that thats what its all about.

  2. I’ve never read a Dork Diary book but maybe I’ll have to check them out. Are they good? I want to see more girls doing real things and being like me and my friends instead of always like people I don’t think exist. So many girls on TV are really lame. They lie a lot. They are mean to their friends. And they even seem like they don’t care about their parents. That’s just not what girls are all bout imo

  3. I want to see more powerful, independent, strong-willed female Naruto characters, I mean, Sakura is physically strong, but she depends on the boys, Hinata is independent, but she’s weak-willed. Tenten doesn’t have enough screen time, Temari is the only strong independent female character. Also, more movies featuring strong, powerful female Superheroes. Like Black Widow, or Wonder Woman, or Hawkgirl, or Scarlet Witch.

  4. I haven’t read the books but you make me want to read them! I want to see more girls with big dreams and who love sports. Brawny girls! Smart girls! Funny girls…

  5. My role model is Froggy from MyFroggyStuff. She is awesome! She believes that no matter what you look like, what gender you are, and what age you are, you can still play with dolls. I wish there was a ‘Dork Diaries’ movie! Does anybody read the books?
