If the native guesses right, she gets to stay on the island with her friends. If she is wrong, the Evil Giant takes her away from the island and away from her friends.

What can the natives do to keep as many of their friends on the island as possible, before the Evil Giant begins placing the colored hats on them? How many natives can stay on the island? Just enter your answer in the comment section below – we’ll publish all answers on June 13, 2016. If you get the answer correct, you will win the new, iTwixie 2016 t-shirt! Thank you, CMU’s Women@SCS for this cool puzzle! Remember, none of your answers will show up until June 13, 2016, when we announce the solution to this puzzle! Good luck!Sponsored by: Carnegie Mellon University’s Women@SCS

And here’s how @blackthehedgehog101 and @fundipgirl answered last month’s challenge: who is going to replace Andrew Jackson on the new twenty dollar bill?
@blackthehedgehog101 said: They will not be replacing Alexander Hamilton, thanks to Lin Manuel Miranda. Alexander Hamilton did create America’s financial plan. It would sort of be rude not to have him on any money! Check out the new rap/hip-hop hit Broadway show about him. Hamilton! it will have you laughing and crying! Go check it out. Right now! why are you still reading? Go check it out!P.S. Harriet Tubman will be on the twenty! Ok… now go check out Hamilton.
@fundipgirl said: Harriet Tubman will replace Andrew Jackson on the 20 dollar bill! Harriet Tubman was an abolitionist who was part of the Underground Railroad. I am so excited for 2020! (We were talking about Harriet Tubman in history today, so that is how I know this!)
The new designs will be out by the year 2020! Whew! Where will YOU be in 2020?

Smart Girl Challenge

We are so happy to announce the winner of last week’s Smart Girl Challenge! Way to go, @gladelaide! You are right: the most common term to describe an object’s energy before it is released is potential energy! It was a tough question, but YOU DID IT! Woo hoo! You are a #SmartGirl, @gladelaide! Now, just email your parent’s mailing address to “info@itwixie.com” and we will send a surprise to you!

Ok, girls! Ready for this week’s Smart Girl Challenge?

2014_0328_1756_58
This question seems simple, but see if you can be the first one to answer it correctly. See these two books? Why can’t you pull them apart? To answer this question, try the following: Separating Books

Question: How  come you can’t pull the books apart from each other?

To figure it out, try this “science project” approach, as follows:

What you need:
2 identical paperback books

Procedure:
1. You want to insert the two books together about 4-5 pages at a time.  The quickest way to do this is like a riffle shuffle.

2. When you have fully interleaved the books push them together so there is an overlap of about 2-3cm.  The hold the two books by their spines and try to pull them apart. You can’t! Why?

First girl to get it right gets the prize! We’ll announce the winner next week. Good luck, girls!

How the iTwixie Smart Girl Challenge works:
Just be the first Smart Girl to successfully answer the question above and you’ll get a surprise from iTwixie! All answers will be posted next Monday. So be sure to check back and see if YOU are our next Smart Girl Challenge winner! Remember, we’re looking for new winners each week. So if you’ve already won in the last 6 months, we will likely award the prize to another girl. Good luck girls!

Thank you, JoJo for this really cool science question!

Smart Girl Challenge
ninja-stem

We are still looking for a winner for last week’s Smart Girl Challenge! To win this particular challenge, you need to understand the different forms of energy. You’ve got to become a STEM Ninja! So, girls, here are a few questions to help you think this challenge through:

When you see a ball on the table, or a roller coaster at the top of a hill, how would you describe its energy? Both are not moving. But both could. So how would you describe their energy?

Each of these questions requires you to think of a different form of energy. Cool, right?

Ok girls, now you are ready. You can do it! Here’s another look at last week’s Smart Girl Challenge, which we have rephrased to help you think this one through. First girl to get it right will win! We’ll announce who it is next week:
What is the most common term to describe an object’s energy before it is released?

How the iTwixie Smart Girl Challenge works:
Just be the first Smart Girl to successfully answer the question above and you’ll get a surprise from iTwixie! All answers will be posted next Monday. Smart Girl Challenge for Hanukkah!
iTwixie Smart Girl Challenge

Way to go, Smart Girl! You took the Smart Girl Challenge and you are this week’s winner! Let’s all congratulate Way to go, @ilovepuppies25

Here’s how @ilovepuppies25 fixed this week’s Smart Girl Challenge sentence: She and I sang, “Oh the weather outside is frightful, but the snow is so delightful!” Way to go, @ilovepuppies25! You are one of nearly 20,000 girls who help make iTwixie the Smartest Place on the Planet!

For Hanukkah, we’ve got a special Smart Girl Challenge for you to try. Check it out and good luck! Here it is:
juda found only enuff oil for one night in the tempel  but then a miracle happened and the oil lasted for ate days

About Hanukkah
In 186 BC, Syrian soldiers took treasures out of the Jewish Temple and Antiochus put up a status of the Greek god, Zeus, in the centre, but it had the face of Antiochus! Then he desecrated the most holy place in the temple and destroyed the Jewish holy scrolls.

Antiochus then banned  the Jewish faith & religion. If you were found out you and all your family were killed. He made the Temple into a shrine to Zeus. When soldiers tried to force Mattathias to make an offering to Zeus in his village, Mattathias refused, and killed a Syrian Soldier! Mattathias’s sons joined him and killed the other soldiers in the village. Then, Mattathias’s son Judah  took charge of the freedom fighters. Judah’s nickname was ‘Maccabee’ which come from the Hebrew word for hammer. He and his troops fought an undercover war for three years and then, finally, defeated them. Whew!

When they got back to Jerusalem, the Temple was in ruins. The statue of Zeus/Antiochus was still standing. So Judah and his freedom fighters cleaned the Temple and rebuilt the Jewish altar. On 165 BC, exactly three years after the statue was put up, the altar and Temple was rededicated to God. When Judah and his followers went into the Temple there was only enough oil to burn for one night, but a miracle took place and the oil burned for eight nights. That’s why Hannukah is celebrated for eight days! Happy Hannukah!
