Unplug June
Unplug and Unleash Girl Power

Happy UNPLUG JUNE, girls!

This June, let’s Unplug. Join iTwixie and Unleash our Girl Power! We will become stronger, bolder, smarter and kinder.

Here’s how:
Step 1 - Spend at least 3 hours a day without your phone, computer or TV – totally UNPLUG, girls!

Step 2 - Make your bed every day.

Step 3 - Read Nancy Drew Mystery, THE SECRET OF THE WOODEN LADY by Carolyn Keene with the iTwixie Book Club

Step 4 - Volunteer 20 minutes a week to help someone or some organization.

Step 5 - Go outside! Every day,  do one of these 3 things, outside: run for 10 minutes, play catch for 20 minutes, or do 10 pushups! You choose! Feel like doing something else? Tell us!

Have fun doing these 5 things, girls! Be sure to write about how you feel on your blog, right here in the comments section or anywhere else on iTwixie. Let’s Unplug June and Unleash our Girl Power!

Together we are changing the world.

Now go UNPLUG!

Nominate a Blogger for February!
blogger of the month button

Some girls write blogs about their life. Others write poems. Some make lists of good things to do, and a bunch of girls give good advice. iTwixie bloggers ROCK! That’s why we like to give out a Blogger of the Month award to recognize your unique, awesome voices! We think the world should join us and #ListenToGirls!!!

So tell us, who inspires you? Which blogger do you like the best? Ready to nominate someone for Blogger of the Month for February? Tell us right here, in the comments section below.

Then, next week, we’ll have a vote, featuring the first 15 bloggers to choose iTwixie’s February Blogger of the Month. The winner will get a custom-made avatar from our newest team member, Lea! How cool is that?!?

How iTwixie’s Blogger of the Month Works
Each month, we take nominations for Blogger of the Month and then iTwixie girls vote for the winner. We make sure there’s a new winner each month. It’s our way of recognizing the cool bloggers that make iTwixie so special.

About Lea
Lea always wanted to an artist and has always drawn pictures. But only recently did she understand where her artistic gifts might take her. She would make shaded portraits cartoon drawings of her friends. She loved seeing how happy they are when they see them. She says that it fills her up with joy to see how her art can put a smile on their faces and make them feel good about themselves. And now she’s ready to put this amazing gift to work for iTwixie… and YOU! We are proud to have Lea join the iTwixie team, as she finishes her undergraduate degree from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. Thank you, Lea! You rock!

Check out the avatar she created for our founder, Rebecca:

We cannot wait to see YOUR avatar,  @floppysnowflake123! And congratulations again!!!

Keep up the amazing writing, girls! Happy blogging!

Vote for December’s BeYOUtiful Tween!
December 12, 2013

This month, we asked for amazing girls to tell us why they should be December’s BeYoutiful Tween — and we loved the great responses that we got!

These are girls who know that being unique and authentic are key to true beauty! Read on — and vote for your pick in the poll below!

@monkeyface said: “I like to help others. I love dogs and I think we need world peace. Our world is getting torn apart I have a club at school to try to help world peace. My friends call me weird, but i think being weird is awesome because I don’t want to be normal. I am very perky. My spelling is not great, but I am in a 12-grade reading level and I love writing. I LOVE ALL MY FRIENDS ON iTWIXIE. I think evrey girl should win.”

@wykkydangel said: “I love drawing. I’m Wendy in my school’s production of Peter Pan. I also love to read and write. Anime and manga are two of my favorite things. I love to sing and play basketball. My friends are very important to me and I love all of them.  I love to cook. My favorite food is ramen and I can make it. I live by this quote: ‘Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, its about learning to dance in the rain.’ When I grow up I want to be a singer or an Egyptologist. I don’t try to be perfect, and I love being friends with everyone. I also love hugs! And I love being myself, even if it annoys people! I LOVE TO TALK, TOO!”

@yellowpencil said: “I’m a gymnast. I think being able to do things is just as important as making things. When I’m at gymnastics, I feel like nothing can hold me back. I’m an artist, my favorite medium is either pencil or clay. I like to be able to hold my work in my hands. I confess: I can’t draw on command. When inspiration comes to me, I’ll find a way to let it out. And I like choosing how. Thanks for listening.”

@skyhigh02 said: “I like making crafts. I can crochet and I used that skill to make my bff a purse for her birthday! I made a binder for school out of duct tape and a cereal box. I decorate everything with duct tape! When I do a craft, I feel like I can do anything! I feel unique. I know that no one is perfect, but when I’m doing something creative like that, I feel like the most perfect person in the world! I write stories and I think I want to be a writer when I grow up. And I can use my creative skills to write an amazing book!”

December 1, 2013
gift wrap

For the entire month of December, iTwixie invites you to DO IT YOURSELF.

iTwixie girls aren’t afraid to roll up their sleeves and get to work — whether they are writing stories, whipping up a delicious treat in the kitchen, dreaming up new inventions  – or even working together to make the world a cleaner and greener place.

This month, since the holidays have begun, we will be sharing some ideas for decorations, recipes and gifts that you can make yourself. Homemade holiday gifts are so full of heart — and when you do it yourself, you can make presents that are cheaper, better for the planet, and tailor-made for the friends and family you love!

Here are a few fun projects to start with:

Ginger Cream Cheese Cupcakes
Chalkboard and Decoupage Pots
Make a Memory Box
Rainbow Bobby Pins

Got ideas for a project that you would like to share? We hope you share your innovative ideas! Just use the comments below to tell us about a D.I.Y. project  you love best!
