Stay tuned, girls, we’ll be taking nominations for Blogger of the Month for February, beginning next week!

How iTwixie’s Blogger of the Month Works
Each month, we take nominations for Blogger of the Month and then iTwixie girls vote for the winner. We make sure there’s a new winner each month. It’s our way of recognizing the cool bloggers that make iTwixie so special.

About Lea
Lea always wanted to an artist and has always drawn pictures. But only recently did she understand where her artistic gifts might take her. She would make shaded portraits cartoon drawings of her friends. She loved seeing how happy they are when they see them. She says that it fills her up with joy to see how her art can put a smile on their faces and make them feel good about themselves. And now she’s ready to put this amazing gift to work for iTwixie… and YOU! We are proud to have Lea join the iTwixie team, as she finishes her undergraduate degree from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. Thank you, Lea! You rock!

Check out the avatar she created for our founder, Rebecca:

We cannot wait to see YOUR avatar,  @floppysnowflake123! And congratulations again!!!

Keep up the amazing writing, girls! Happy blogging!

STOP Bullying May
by MissBlackflag

This May, let’s work with each other and a whole world of groups who are all about girlpower, and let’s STOP Bullying! Let’s write blogs about how to STOP bulling. Let’s draw pictures of how to STOP bulling. Let’s read a book about how to STOP bullying… we can do it. It’s important!

Did you know that nearly half of half of students in grades 4-12 have been the victims of bullying? Look around you. That means that half of your friends have probably been bullied. Maybe YOU have been bullied!

Bullying is wrong and who needs it? No one! Together, we can STOP it. Here’s how:

Our new friends at REALgirl®  tell us the key to stopping bullying lies within each of us. When each of us feels empowered and anchored in our sense of self, bullying can truly be a thing of the past. So join us this May and let’s STOP Bullying… TOGETHER!

  1. Speak up when you see any kind of bullying, from gossiping to excluding others
  2. Agree with your BFFs that you won’t stand for any bullying behavior
  3. Always be kind to each other and show respect for our differences

Watch how you feel even more empowered by helping each other to STOP Bullying. It feels great. And we can do it, together.

How are YOU going to join in this effort this May? Tell us right here!

Thanks, REALgirl!

American Girl Wants to Inspire You
Samantha-american-girl-dolls-161883_400_400

When American Girl first started making dolls, they told the stories of amazing girls from hundreds of years ago. iTwixie recently caught up with a representative from American Girl to find out what American Girl is doing now.

iTwixie: What is today’s vision/mission for American Girl?

American Girl: American Girl’s mission is to “Celebrate Girls.” From our books to our dolls to our experiences—it’s all about celebrating who girls are right now.  Our vision is “To Be the Premier Lifestyle Brand that Girls Love and Moms Trust.”

iTwixie: How does your team decide which stories to tell?

American Girl: Great Question! Our stories have always come first when we are creating  a new character (historical or contemporary). It’s a very collaborative process with our in-house team of editors, researchers, and designers, as well as the selected author. For historical characters, we first consider a geographic area and a particular time period that we haven’t covered yet. We also tap into what girls and moms are telling us they are interested in reading about. Whenever we develop a story, though, we always want to offer an optimistic perspective (we want to inspire girls!); we also want to make it fun and provide pure enjoyment for girls; and, we want to be relevant for girls, helping them build a solid foundation on which to grow for the rest of their lives.

So there you have it, girls. American Girl wants to hear from YOU! Tell us which story YOU want to see in their next doll. We’ll help put together all of your ideas and send them over. Pretty fun, right?

And when you do, you’ll get a cool Girlpower Achievement, for speaking up and sharing your good ideas. When you share your ideas, the world gets better. So tell us, what is a girl story that YOU want to hear about from American Girl?
