Congratulations to November’s Writers of the Month
writing

Congratulations to @LocoGirl and @SkyHigh02. Can you believe they tied for November’s Writer of the Month? Their winning stories are below — and thanks to everyone who applied and voted! We are SO GRATEFUL for your participation.

“It was a Thanksgiving I will never forget. My family had just sat down to a table overflowing with delicious dishes when the doorbell rang. When I went to answer the door I couldn’t believe who was standing there…” A cute little girl with the serious grey eyes. She said her name was Nico and that her parents and two siblings were at the homeless shelter. She said that they didn’t approve of begging, but they didn’t have any food, even though they were at a homeless shelter. We invited her in and gave her two heaps of mashed potatoes, one scoop of cranberry sauce, three piles of stuffing, half the turkey and a pumpkin pie. She asked if we could drive her back, and my parents and cousins, aunts and uncles, grandmas and grandpas, all piled in our minivan like sardines. The shelter sure was a drab place. The walls were grey and crumbling. On the bright side, the food cheered everyone up. A toothless old lady actually hugged me! When we left I felt SO thankful to have a non-crumbling roof over my head. It was the most touching Thanksgiving EVER.” — @LocoGirl

“It was a Thanksgiving I will never forget. My family had just sat down to a table overflowing with delicious dishes when the doorbell rang. When I went to answer the door I couldn’t believe who was standing there…” My grandfather? But I thought he died. It looks exactly like him, his smile, his eyes, everything! But I couldn’t believe it, it can’t be true. Suddenly his smile vanished. ‘What’s wrong Amy?’ He asked. I took a step back, ‘Ummmm Who are you?’ His smile appeared again, ‘It’s me, Grandpa Wilson.’ ‘Uhhhh OK, MOOOOMMMM!’ I shouted. My mother appeared, when she saw the man who was supposedly my grandfather she screamed. His smile disapeared again and he muttered something under his breath. I turned to see my mother out cold on the floor, when I turned around the man vanished right in front of me. ‘OK I’m gonna need a bucket of water and a towel STAT!’” — @SkyHigh02

I stare at the pool. I know I can do it. Just jump, I keep thinking. But how do you make a big splash? The splash has to be at least 6 feet high to qualify for the next round. I hold my breath and…bend my knees so far that I’m nearly squatting. I push off with all the strength I’ve got left. My feet leave the diving board as I curve in an ark, my hands 1st, then my head, shoulders, all the way down to my feet. As I hit the surface, I hear the crowd hold their breath. I smoothly cut under the surface, all my muscles pumping. as I resurface, I don’t hear applause, or cheering. As the judges discuss my splash, I hear a voice in the crowd. ” You can do it!” my BFF Amy shouts. As the judges slowly flip over the scorecards, everyone holds their breath. There are some doubts creeping into my brain, but I shake them off as I look at the judges, my heart racing. 10, 10, and 10! “Yes!” I scream over the crowd, my voice echoing through the stadium. My whole family and Amy race down, with shining faces. “You did it!” shouts Amy racing over to hug me. As her arms wrap around me, I whisper in her ear, ” I’m sorry.” Then she hugs me even tighter back and whispers, “me too.” Soon, my parents surround me, and I know this is where I belong.   @coolpurple

Congratulations, coolpurple, you are the June Writer of the Month. You have won an uber cool writer’s journal from Compendium and a Writer of the Month Achievement Award! Great job!!

Writer of the Month Vote

These paragraphs will be featured for a week so you can choose iTwixie’s May Writer of the Month! The winner will get a writer’s journal! Just read the paragraphs below and vote for your fave! The winner will be announced next week on May 31.

The prompt is in italic print and quotes, the rest of the paragraph is by the member! Aren’t these fun to read?

1) “Nothing can ruin today because it is my birthday! The clouds will melt away and the sun will shine, I just know it. Even that grumpy looking person coming my way…”  Oh no! Maybe she can! It’s Raelei Curtis! She immediately starts pestering me. I’m starting to get irritated. I turn around, smile sweetly, and ask,”Do you need something Raelei?” Surprised, she asks,”Are you really friends with that dork Micheala, or do you just feel sorry for her.” Her question is offensive. I’ve known Micheala for two years and she was the only one of my friends who listened to my problems and she didn’t abandon me for two girls she had just met, like my “friend” Paige. She had some problems with her temper and kids verbally tortured her almost everyday. Whenever she stands up for herself, they laugh at her like she is a joke. Raelei was one of her tormenters. She understood what it was like for people to treat her like she is worthless. So my expression turned fierce as I answered,”Of course she is my friend. And I do not like it when one of my friends are insulted. Now I have to get to class.” Then I walked off to History with a big smile on my face. @FantasticFrenzy

2) “Nothing can ruin today because it is my birthday! The clouds will melt away and the sun will shine, I just know it. Even that grumpy looking person coming my way…”  is gonna be okay. The world has turned with me for a year more. I’m a year wiser, a year better. Nothing can hurt, tease, or desert me because today is my day, the day the world celebrates me. The one day of the year where you are two years at once. Birthdays rock!  @playful52

3) “Nothing can ruin today because it is my birthday! The clouds will melt away and the sun will shine, I just know it. Even that grumpy looking person coming my way…”  I am going to have a great day and nothing can stop me. I’m going to have a wonderful, lavish party with all of my friends from school and my relatives. This day will always be a fond memory of mine, I can just feel it. And nothing can change it or stop it. Because my birthdays always turn out wonderfully.  @Gertie1999

4) “Nothing can ruin today because it is my birthday! The clouds will melt away and the sun will shine, I just know it. Even that grumpy looking person coming my way…”  is going to end up smiling at me because I know there is this birthday glow that follows me whereever I go. I am the most happy girl on the planet today. It is my birthday. MINE. And this is the day that I get to celebrate me. Sure, maybe my friends will get me a gift. My family will make something special for me, too. But today I will get a special gift from me… I will be a year older a year stronger and a year bolder. Yay. Me. :)   Don’t you feel like this on your birthday too? I hope so.   @missmonkey

We have some poets on iTwixie! Here are the entries for this month’s Writer of the Month. Because April is National Poetry Month, girls were given a sample poem instead of a prompt.

Here is the sample poem:

My jeans are comfy
A sweatshirt is too
I like to be cozy
How about you?

Here are the cool entries:

PANDAS:
They love to play,
And sleep all day,
Pandas are cute,
But they shouldn’t wear boots!         @pinkpancakes

PETS
Puppies are cute
Some are so furry
Fish are cute too
They swim in a flurry         @missmonkey
