A Limerick is a five-line poem that’s usually pretty funny. Some people say that the limerick
was invented by soldiers returning from France to the Irish town of Limerick in the 1700′s.
Here’s how YOU can write one:
- The first two lines of a Limerick are written with three “beats” and rhyme.
- The next two lines are written with two “beats” each and rhyme.
- The last line is written with three beats, rhymes with the first two lines,
- and usually gives the reader the punchline of the joke, that is, a limerick.
See if you can find the “beats” in this limerick! Then write one yourself!
A snowflake fell right on Flea
Flea said, “It’s melting on me!”
Mom said, “Add bubbles!
Wash off your troubles!”
So now snowflakes clean Flea’s family!
Silly, right? Now make one of your own!
