Save the Prairie Dog!
February 3, 2010
0

Biologists, for example, are identifying large, safe areas where prairie dogs can survive and raise families. This is good news not only for prairie dogs, but also for the badgers, buffalo, burrowing owls, coyotes, ferrets, eagles, antelope, and foxes that all live within or near prairie dog colonies and depend upon the prairie dog for many aspects of their life.

Biologists are amazed at how prairie dog colonies actually help more kinds of grasses grow on the prairie.  Cool, right?  Prairie dog burrows provide homes for other wildlife.  No wonder scientists call the prairie dog a keystone species!

Is there anything you can do?  Learn more about prairie dogs! Tell your friends about prairie dogs! Celebrate Prairie Dog Day!

P.S. Prairie dogs and ground hogs saw their shadows yesterday. Does that really mean we are in for six more weeks of winter?
