  • Tween kids in Japan go to school on Saturdays, too!
  • In most Japanese schools, before walking to class, you take off your shoes at the door and put on special, slipper-like shoes called “uwabaki.”
  • Have you ever heard of “origami”? It’s an ancient Japanese art where paper is folded into unique, beautiful shapes!

Follow these steps to create your own origami dog!

  • Cut a piece of paper so it is a square with 6 inch sides.
  • Put it on the table so it looks like a diamond to you.
  • Fold the left corner to meet the right corner and crease the paper, then unfold it.
  • Now fold the top corner down to meet the bottom corner and crease it, keeping the paper folded.
  • There should be two layers of paper. Fold the top layer’s bottom corner back just a little bit to make a small triangle – this will be the dog’s nose!
  • Fold both the side corners so the points are facing down – these are the dog’s ears!
  • Draw some eyes and that’s it! You’ve made your first origami dog!

Send us a photo of your origami creations to submissions@itwixie.com and we’ll post them right here on iTwixie!
