The Coastal Jazz and Blues Society presents the annual Time Flies Improvised Music Festival at Vancouver’s Ironworks Studio. A veritable feast of new sounds is served up by some of the most creative improvisers from Canada and around the world.

This year’s programme features renowned German bassist Torsten Müller, composer Jessica Pavone, Vancouver drummer Dylan van der Schyff and others.

The Kiruna Snow Festival is an annual celebration of winter that takes place in the north of Sweden, where the Northern Lights can be glimpsed across the snowy expanses. Participating teams create sculptures from a three-by-three metre cube of snow.

The Kiruna Snow Festival first happened in 1985 as a complement to the launch of the rocket Viking from the space centre Esrange (40km from Kiruna).
