Crypton Future Media Inc. developed the software “Hatsune Miku” using Yamaha’s voice-synthesizing technology Vocaloid. By typing in the lyrics to songs on the computers, songs can be vocalized without a human singer. The software was a hit, selling over 40,000 copies. The company thought they could “create a new instrument if a cute or cool anime character could sing.” Their goal was to turn the Vocaloid voice into a character.
That character ended up being Hatsune Miku, a sixteen-year-old girl with long green pigtails and a voice range no human could ever hope to match. She has developed a huge fan base worldwide, and continues to fill the world with her amazing voice and music.
