No! It’s pretty cool, actually. They aren’t a new kind of spider. Turns out, they are female spiders who are pregnant! Because female spiders carry their entire extended family around, they can look enormous.
It’s amazing how strong these female spiders are! It’s like one woman carrying around her entire neighborhood… and THEN climbing a wire with the neighborhood on her back.
That is some kind of strong!!

From September through November she takes live spiders into local public schools and teaches children in grades 3 through 12 about these important and fascinating creatures.
