1. GIVE CHOICES Instead of asking the kids, what do you want to do? Ask them to make a choice between two things.
Do you want to draw or blow bubbles?
Having the kids make choices makes kids feel like they get a say in what you do, while keeping you in control of all of the things that you could do. Everybody wins: you are always ready to do what they choose and they are happy that they were allowed to make the choice.
