Magnetism is the force that draws metal things like paperclips to magnets. It’s this kind of force that guides spiny lobsters to their homes. They do not use their eyes! Can you imagine walking across a room with your eyes closed, without running into anything? By studying these lobsters, researchers have found a way to build robots that navigate using magnetism, too.
Lobsters are teaching us how to design robots! Here are some other fun facts about lobsters:
• Lobsters have no backbone.
• A female lobster lays eggs once every two years and can lay as many as 100,000 eggs.
• Lobsters walk along the ocean floor at night to look for food.
