How to Power-Up for Basketball Games

iTwixie’s feature about what to eat at Swim Meets rocked, right? But what about basketball?

Check out what former WNBA Sting forward player, Allison Feaster says helps her do her best on game days:

Is there a certain food/meal that you like to eat before games? What foods do you have a weakness for? What’s your favorite healthy snack? 
I am light eater before games. My weakness is sweets. My favorite healthy snack is fruit.

What’s your favorite exercise for lower body?
I like to jog. It’s a great overall body workout

What’s your favorite exercise for upper body?
Push-ups. I like to do push-ups because you can do them anywhere.

What’s your favorite cardio exercise?
Running in the pool.

What do you do to stay in shape during the offseason?
Play basketball in France

What’s your toughest fitness challenge?
Running 17′s. It’s a drill we do where you have to touch 17 lines.

Is there a fitness/exercise goal that you’ve set for yourself that you’re working towards now?
My fitness goal is to just maintain my current level of fitness.

Is there a fitness accomplishment you’re most proud of?
I am proud of the number of push-ups I am able to do consecutively. When I started out I could do only five push-ups consecutively, now I can do 40.

What advice would you give to someone who wanted to get into better shape for playing basketball?
Be committed to your goal. Realize that it’s a long term process.

How would you describe the role/importance of fitness and exercise in your life?
Fitness and exercise are an integral part of my life. It has been the key to my success and my health.

Is there a song/type of music that you listen to while you’re working out?
Hip Hop

Is there a fitness product on TV that makes you laugh the most?
There are a couple, Buns of Steel and the Ab Roller.

When did you start working out? How has your fitness routine changed over the years?
I began working out in grade school. My fitness routine has changed as I have worked to become an elite athlete. My workout has become very specialized. For me, my fitness routine is a year-round continual process
